How much time should my Year 5 child spend on 11 Plus preparation this summer? There is no doubt that getting things right over the summer weeks can make all the difference when it comes to the ‘exam season’. Certainly, candidates need to tick over and undertake up to two hours of preparation per day split across two sessions but every child is different and parents will know themselves whether time is being used productively. If it isn’t, the value of the work is extremely limited. Children should also continue to read widely. Mock exams are also a really useful way to map progress and, with the right feedback, identify those areas in which the final push should be focused.
At the same time, it is vital that children have a break. A family holiday should not be turned into a chore. Excursions should continue to take place and children should be allowed to have plenty of fun. This will help them to understand that a balance can be struck and they are more likely to focus on their work when the time comes.
